Pilot hole percussion drilling to accommodate later gold exploration
diamond drilling exposed a number of clay deposits derived from shale
forming part of an outlier of relatively thing rocks of the Karoo
Suprtgroup overlying an undulating palaeo-surface of dolomite.
The now unbundled Gold Fields of South Africa Ltd ("GFSA")
identified a clay deposit located on the farm Turffontein 126 IQ, north
of Potchefstroom (Turffontein"). The deposit was delineated and
contoured which, if the basin continuity is assumed within the sphere
of influence of the completed drilling, results in a SAMREC compliant
indicated Mineral resource of 18 million tons.
Five percussions holes were drilled and samples submitted for
mineralogical and chemical identification, the result of which
indicated the kaolin mineral dickite.
The in situ value of the deposit is estimated at R216 million based on a current commodity price of R12.00 per ton.
CHEMICAL ANALYSIS:

LOCATION:

The clay deposit is located on the farm Turffontein 126 IQ, some thirty
kilometres NNW of Potchefstroom, North West Province. The main
Carletonville / Potchefstroom road is within two kilometres and the
Gatsrand station on the main Johannesburg / Cape Town railway line is
located within three kilometres of the deposit. The area is
relatively flat-lying savannah at an altitude of 1,500m, well served by
utilities with some agricultural activity.
